Last year, a bronze sculpture depicting the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump was exhibited in his Oval Office in Butler, Pennsylvania. The statue, which stands at least two feet tall, was placed beside Trump’s desk as he signed several executive orders in front of the media.
This sculpture captures that memorable moment when Trump was carried off stage by three Secret Service members, including the current director, Sean Curran, after gunfire erupted from a rooftop near the Butler Farm Showground on July 13th.
In the piece, Trump is shown diving to the ground as the bullets whiz by, then being helped to his feet by a Secret Service agent. Even as they attempted to escort him off the stage, he famously paused to raise his fist in the air and shouted, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”—a striking image of defiance, even as blood trickled from his ears after a near miss from the bullets. This scene quickly went viral and became a defining moment for the 2024 presidential campaign, showing Trump’s resilience and bravery, and energizing his supporters, while also drawing in new ones.
The sculpture, rendered in a dark bronze finish, features abstract representations of the American flag. It’s a part of artist Stan Watts’ collection, who plans to create a larger, nine-foot version to honor Trump. The artist’s website expresses that this imagery encapsulates confidence and strength, symbolizing unity and resilience that America stands for.
Interestingly, the White House did not comment on the purpose of the statue’s presence or whether it was a gift to the president. Watts is also known for his other significant works including representations of historical figures like John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Martin Luther King Jr. Recently, Butler artist Bill Seconda unveiled a life-sized sculpture of Trump made from nails as another tribute to the same assassination attempt.
