During a press session at the Cleveland Browns rookie minicamp, Chedur Sanders, the team’s newly drafted quarterback, addressed reporters. He discussed President Donald Trump’s remarks concerning his unexpected drop during the NFL Draft and his pursuit of a starting position.
The 23-year-old also answered some questions about his jersey number. The Browns confirmed that he will wear jersey No. 12 this season.
Wide receiver Deandre Carter is set to take No. 2 for the team. There had been some speculation that Sanders might ask Carter to return the number he wore at Colorado.
Sanders remarked, “My signature bonus isn’t that high now,” acknowledging the realities he faces as a fifth-round pick. Despite earlier expectations of being selected second overall, his draft slide was notable.
During his college career, he attracted attention for several notable endorsements. He finished the 2024 season with impressive stats, throwing for 4,134 yards, and now joins a quarterback lineup that includes Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett.
This minicamp allowed Sanders and Gabriel to practice extensively together, with both getting significant snaps during their 90-minute session. Coach Kevin Stefanski expressed enthusiasm about working with both rookies, reflecting on the time spent preparing them leading up to the draft. He mentioned how seeing them transition from meetings to practice is an exciting part of their development.
