Sam’s Imogen
What did you want?
He had never met him before and wanted to see him again.
First impression?
Mullets definitely leave a mark, but really, it’s about the big smile and enthusiasm.
What did you talk about?
A mix of significant topics (his move from Australia and my job changes) and lighter stuff (like World Book Day costumes and picking melons).
The most troublesome moment?
He likened our meeting to a blind date and brought me a gift, which left me feeling a bit guilty for not having one for him.
Good table manners?
Yes, even while peeling shrimp.
What’s Sam’s best?
He’s an excellent conversationalist and has a good sense of humor, which is essential when interacting with a 9-year-old.
Would you like to introduce Sam to a friend?
Absolutely.
Explain him in three words
Thoughtful, cheerful, spontaneous.
What do you think he made for you?
I was a bit flustered after having trouble finding the restaurant, but we settled down quickly and had a great time.
Have you gone somewhere?
Not really, though we did step out of the restaurant after enjoying our second glass of wine.
And… did you kiss me?
No, just a friendly goodbye hug outside the station.
If we could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
Maybe a closer match in terms of location (he lives in Maidenhead, I’m in East London).
Mark out of 10?
8. It was a fun evening filled with tapas.
Will we meet again?
Sam was wonderful, but we’re in different places—both literally and figuratively.

Just a simple kiss on the cheek.

I wish we could have enjoyed the tapas outside together.
Mark out of 10?
