As families come together for Mother’s Day 2025, Fox News Digital caught up with Second Lady Ushavance to discuss what the holiday means to her and how she plans to celebrate. Mrs. Vance reflected on her experiences balancing her duties as both the second lady and a mother to a young child.
“It’s easier now to manage my time compared to when I was in the full-time workforce,” she shared, revealing a sense of control over her schedule. However, she acknowledged that parenting in the spotlight can be challenging. “I definitely miss my work, but I appreciate having the chance to maintain as normal a family life as we can,” she added.
Mrs. Vance and her husband, Vice President JD Vance, are parents to three young children: Ewan, 7, Vivek, 5, and Mirabel, 3. They met at Yale Law School and married in 2014. Looking back on her own upbringing, Mrs. Vance spoke fondly of her mother, Lakshmi Chirkuri, noting, “She didn’t always give direct advice, but her example taught me so much.”
She emphasized the importance of being present for her children, saying it’s a gift she learned from her mother. Recently, Mrs. Vance attended a Mother’s Day event honoring military moms, hosted by First Lady Melania Trump. Reflecting on that experience, she said, “I enjoyed sharing a celebration with my White House military mom friends.”
At home, Sundays are often spent hiking and enjoying treats baked by her husband. “It’s a quieter day,” she noted, sharing her family’s simple joys. As Mother’s Day gifts rolled in, the second lady mentioned that she might have opened some surprises early, revealing a playful side to her parenting.
“My kids were so excited to give me their kindergarten presents, they just couldn’t wait until the actual day,” she recalled with a smile. Looking ahead, Mrs. Vance continues to balance family life with her responsibilities in Washington, aiming to create cherished memories as a mother.
