Cecily Strong returns to ‘SNL’ as Jeanine Pirro

Cecily Strong made a return to Saturday Night Live this weekend, teaming up with Colin Jost in a sketch that poked fun at Trump administration figures Janine Piro and Pete Hegseth.

The former “SNL” cast member reprised her role as a New York prosecutor and also embodied the Fox News host Piro, following her portrayal of President Trump.

Strong played the president alongside James Austin Johnson, who portrayed Jost as Hegseth during the Cold Open segment.

The sketch kicked off with jokes about Trump’s tariffs, a topic that has been frequently addressed in recent episodes of the NBC show.

“Can a country go out of business? We’ll find out,” Johnson said, impersonating Trump.

Switching to “good news,” he walked onto the stage to enthusiastic applause, announcing that he had appointed someone he described as the loudest person he knew to be the U.S. attorney for DC.

“Janine will be the newest member of my outstanding administration,” he continued, referring to Strong’s character.

Strong’s portrayal of Piro boasted pride in being part of a team known for dealing with Russian assets and pet-related controversies.

Despite misnaming her as “Pillar,” Johnson’s Trump emphasized a key quality he wanted in a lawyer: fame.

Strong also brought back her iconic “spit-take” routine, playfully spraying Jost’s mouth during the sketch.

This wasn’t Strong’s first impersonation of Piro on “SNL,” but it brought back the comedic gag from the “Weekend Update” segment.

The sketch ended with a humorous twist as Strong, mimicking a strong drink, sprayed what appeared to be red wine into Jost’s mouth, eliciting laughter from the audience.

I also caught the Saturday episode where Colin Jost had some sharp words for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the “Weekend Update” segment.

Jost mentioned Trump’s announcement of a new trade agreement with the UK, humorously suggesting that all the UK needs in return is to keep the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In another quirky segment, Jost called attention to some “silly” purchases.

Alongside Pete Davidson, Jost mentioned buying the Staten Island ferry at an auction in 2022 for $280,000, noting that they are “fully invested.”
