The Washington State Patrol reported that a military Humvee crashed and went over a retaining wall in Bellevue, Washington, on Saturday.
The Humvee was pulling a trailer while heading east on I-90. Reports indicated that the vehicle veered off course, crossed the shoulder, and fell approximately 30 feet onto Southeast 38th Avenue.
Trooper Rick Johnson shared images of the incident, noting that the Humvee drifted to the right. However, the reasons behind this drift remain unclear.
Photos depict the trailer overturned and the Humvee severely damaged.
There were two individuals injured in the crash, and notably, no other vehicles were involved.
Johnson mentioned that the injured were likely taken to Overlake Medical Center with minor injuries.
“These military vehicles were probably on their way to the Yakima Training Center in central Washington, which is a common route via I-90,” Johnson explained. He added that the Humvee was “substantially damaged,” and authorities are looking into what caused the incident.
Humvees are often regarded as rugged and reliable. Since their introduction to the U.S. military in 1983, they have been utilized in various terrains across the globe, as highlighted by military archives showcasing their versatility in different environments.
A similar accident occurred recently in Louisville, Kentucky, where a tractor-trailer ended up dangling from an elevated track, prompting fire crews to respond quickly to assist the driver.
