Maher Critiques Democratic Party’s Stance on Anti-Semitism
HBO’s Real Time host Bill Maher recently criticized Democrats for allegedly accommodating anti-Semitic sentiments among youth in universities, making a striking comparison between their evolving priorities over time.
During a monologue, Maher argued that Democrats have embraced radical and hateful ideologies that seem to resonate with many young people on college campuses, all in the name of progressive causes. He expressed his frustration over the popularity of these extreme views among certain youth demographics.
“These young people don’t just appreciate their own cultures; they have a disdain for others,” Maher remarked. “They think Hamas is a liberation movement. They chant about honoring martyrs. It’s like they’re searching for love in all the wrong places.”
He shared some of the chants he had encountered at pro-Palestinian protests that supported Hamas and Palestine.

Maher noted that during Coachella this year, when an Irish rap group displayed the message “Israel, Free Palestine,” it was met with widespread applause. “This Intifada globalization is quite a trend today,” he added.
He also took aim at figures like Vermont’s Senator Bernie Sanders and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for allowing Palestinian flags to be displayed during recent speaking engagements.
“One would hope that an adult on stage might tell a young follower, ‘This isn’t a symbol of freedom,'” he pointed out, holding up the U.S. flag as a counterexample.
Maher warned that Democrats might face significant backlash for their association with such extremism. “They’re leaning into all sorts of nonsense, and this isn’t new,” he said, referring to past instances where Democrats have embraced controversial ideas. “It seems we’ve moved from a focus on gender fluidity to an unsettling acceptance of ‘We like terrorists’.”
