Sepp Straka joined Rory McIlroy on a special list after winning the Truist Championship.

PGA Championship at Quail Hollow: Key Storylines

The PGA Championship has drawn significant attention this week at Quail Hollow, with plenty of intriguing narratives unfolding.

Scottie Scheffler is still in search of his first major victory outside of the Masters, though he recently secured his first win of the season at the CJ Cup. Then there’s Xander Schauffele, the defending champion of this event and this year’s Open Champion. Justin Thomas also remains a focal point, as he was the last golfer to win the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. And we can’t forget Jordan Spieth, who, interestingly, is still chasing this major for his career Grand Slam. Speaking of Grand Slams, Rory McIlroy recently achieved this feat by winning at Augusta.

With so much happening, McIlroy is certainly a key player, especially given his strong history at Quail Hollow and his successful form. He not only won at Augusta this year but also had victories at Players and Pebble Beach.

Before Sunday, Rory was the sole player to secure multiple PGA Tour wins this season, but that has since changed.

Sepp Straka claimed victory at the Truist Championship held at the Philly Cricket Club. Earlier this year, he also won the American Express, making him just the second golfer this season to score multiple wins.

This latest win marks the fourth for Straka, who is only 32. He currently holds second place in the FedEx Cup rankings and is enjoying an outstanding season. While he’s expected to improve his position in the official World Golf Rankings, it’s worth noting that those rankings have become complicated lately.

Nonetheless, whether Straka can rise to the challenge against the competition in this week’s major remains to be seen. It will be fascinating to follow the action.
