Peacock Hints at ‘The Office’ Spinoff ‘The Paper’ and Announces Premiere Date

NBC Unveils Upcoming Spin-Off Series, paper

NBC has finally offered a glimpse into its forthcoming spin-off of The Office, titled paper. It appears to blend humor and challenges, much like its predecessor.

During NBCUniversal’s initial presentation on Monday, the network shared updates about this new series on its Peacock platform. The show features stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nuñez, who discussed the mockumentary-style series focused on a struggling newspaper team in the Midwest.

“We represent three members of a fantastic ensemble cast, all underdogs fighting to keep journalism alive,” Gleeson remarked. “My character is a persistently optimistic guy who believes he can make a difference. And just to clarify—no Irish accent from me!”

Peacock also announced a tentative release timeframe and shared some initial images from the pilot episode. In one, Gleeson can be seen standing on his desk while his colleagues—including Nuñez and Impacciatore—observe from around the newsroom.

The series exists within the same world as The Office, though it doesn’t function as a reboot or a revival.

The logline for paper teases: “The crew behind the documentary that captured the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin has stumbled upon a fading Midwest newspaper. They are looking for new subjects just as the publisher attempts to revive it with volunteer journalists.”

Who Stars in paper?

While Impacciatore and Gleeson appear to lead the cast, NBC has kept a tight lid on the specifics of their roles. However, it has been confirmed that Nuñez will be reprising a different role from his original portrayal of Oscar Martinez.

Additional cast members include Chelsea Frey, Melvin Greg, Ramona Young, Gvemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, and Tim Key.

A local paper, Palisades Post, based in California, highlighted that the actors have gained valuable insights into the inner workings of local journalism, collaborating closely with real newspaper staff throughout the production of paper.

These actors have reportedly shadowed employees involved in sales, reporting, distribution, and graphic design.

When Will paper Premiere?

NBC has confirmed that the series will stream exclusively on Peacock starting in September, although an exact date remains unannounced.

If you’re curious about The Office, it’s currently available for streaming on Peacock as well.
