Alice in Chains Cancels Tour Due to Medical Issues
Alice in Chains has decided to cancel their upcoming tour after receiving concerning medical news about drummer Sean Kinney. The announcement came via the band’s social media on Saturday. They cited medical advice regarding Kinney’s health as the reason for this difficult choice.
“After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we decided to cancel the remaining festival performances and the Chain-In headline show,” the band’s statement read. “We all wanted to go back to the stage, but Sean’s health is our top priority right now.”
The statement did not specify Kinney’s exact diagnosis. However, it noted that “the issues need immediate attention” and that “his long-term prognosis is positive.”
They concluded their message by thanking fans for their understanding and support during this time.
In the comments on Instagram, fans expressed their well wishes for Kinney, offering messages of support. One follower said, “Good for Sean! The stage will still be there when you’re better, and so will the fans.” Another chimed in, praising the band for prioritizing their member’s health.
This cancellation follows a serious medical incident during a sound check, which led to the cancellation of a concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Montville, Connecticut, on May 8th. If the band had proceeded with that show, it would have marked their first performance together in over a year since their last concert at the Chic New World Festival in Las Vegas in April 2024.
Along with canceling the tour, they have also called off upcoming performances in Nashville and Atlanta, as well as appearances at several music festivals such as MMR*B*Q, Sonic Temple, and Welcome to Rockville. Currently, their only scheduled performance appears to be at Black Sabbath’s final concert in the UK in July, according to their website.
Alice in Chains formed in Seattle back in 1987, with Kinney on drums alongside Jerry Cantrell, Mike Starr, and Rain Staley. Current members Mike Inez and William DuVall joined to replace Starr and Staley.
Throughout their career, the band has sold over 30 million records globally, received 11 Grammy nominations, and was ranked 34th in VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists in Hard Rock.”
