The star made an appearance at Citi Field on Monday, as Paul Skenes, considered one of the best young pitchers in baseball, took the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the top-ranked New York Mets. His girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, was also there, having grown up just a short distance from the stadium.
With her gymnastics career now behind her, Livvy finally had the chance to support Skenes during his sophomore season.
This time around, Skenes wasn’t exactly on top of his game compared to last year, but he still boasted a solid 2.77 ERA as he entered the matchup. It was notable for him since it was his first start following the firing of manager Derek Shelton, after the team started with a disappointing 12-26 record. Reflecting on the situation, he acknowledged, “Someone has to take accountability,” but emphasized that ultimately, the results depend on the players.
Livvy, who has made a splash as a model recently, brought along some friends. They made headlines by attending the game and even posed for some selfies. Skens finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting last year and earned the title of NL Rookie of the Year. He made history by being the first rookie to start in an All-Star Game since Hideo Nomo back in 1995.
On the Mets’ side, they were tied for the second-best record in Major League Baseball at 26-15, giving them a fierce presence as they chase the Los Angeles Dodgers, who knocked them out in the National League Championship Series last year.
