A woman was filmed on police body cam while driving through closed streets in Laurel, Maryland, claiming she needed to get to work. In the video, she attempts to argue with officers who were blocking her path.
During the encounter, she exclaimed, “I have to go to work! What do you want me to do?”
The police noted that the city’s Main Street Festival was happening at the time, and she couldn’t park her car or drive through, even as she insisted on her need to leave. The officer involved apologized for the inconvenience and offered to call her a taxi.
“There has to be another way,” she insisted. “I’m not taking a taxi all the way to Virginia. I work in Virginia… I need to get out of here.” Laurel is situated about 40 minutes north of Washington, DC, close to northern Virginia.
As the officers reiterated that they couldn’t allow her to drive, she jokingly replied, “I might have to do it,” and proceeded to tear down a yellow police tape in front of her vehicle.
She then returned to her car and drove toward the officers, who had to use their hands to protect themselves from being hit by her vehicle.
As she drove onto the closed street, officers screamed for her to stop. It wasn’t long before other officers pounded on the hood of her car, prompting her to halt and be placed in handcuffs.
Police identified the woman as 28-year-old Kai Debery Bostic and confirmed that she did not injure anyone during the incident. However, she now faces several charges, including assault and resisting arrest, with one officer suffering minor injuries from the altercation.
