Ms. Rachel supports her Israel-Hamas comments to Mehdi Hasan

Ms. Rachel Speaks Out on Gaza Conflict

Children’s YouTube star, known as “Ms. Rachel,” appeared recently on Mehdi Hasan’s Zeteo News, discussing her views on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Rachel Griffin Accerso, the persona behind “Ms. Rachel,” runs a popular channel with 14.7 million subscribers and has been sharing posts highlighting the war’s impact on Palestinian children.

She emphasized the alarming statistics, stating, “Over 14,000 children are suffering in Gaza. It has the highest number of child amputees in history. We cannot remain silent about this reality for these kids.” This comment references data from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health.

The UN has adjusted its figures regarding casualties in Gaza, revealing that there are nearly 50% fewer deaths among women and children than what was initially reported.

Last month, the count of institutions under Hamas control was revised significantly, revealing that 72% of casualties between ages 13 and 55 were male.

As an educator, Accerso stated, “You care for all kids. In my classes, they all seem quite similar. They love to giggle, learn, and play; they deserve that chance.” Hasan, previously affiliated with Al Jazeera and MSNBC, has been critical of Israel, accusing the IDF of targeting innocent civilians, drawing comparisons to regimes in Russia and Syria.

In 2021, he claimed that both the U.S. and Israeli actions could be equated to “war crimes,” similar to those committed by groups like Hamas. Additionally, he defended Ilhan Omar when accusations of anti-Semitism arose in 2019.

Recently, conservative critics have called for boycotts against Ms. Rachel due to her Pride Month content, suggesting her influence on children could be problematic.

Some have accused her of promoting an anti-Israel agenda, rather than solely advocating for children’s welfare. Notably, critics pointed out her delayed response to the horrific October 7 attacks by Hamas, where 38 children were killed, including very young ones.

Her first statement came 12 days later, as Israel was gearing up for conflict.

There was a public outcry over her increasingly politicized online persona, with some suggesting it may be aligned with a specific political agenda. Rachel has denied these claims, labeling them as “absurd.” She noted, “It’s disheartening when expressing compassion for suffering children becomes controversial. My focus is on nurturing all kids and ensuring their needs are met. If they lack food, safety, or medical care, I can’t do my job as an educator.”

In her defense, Accerso reiterated the importance of caring for all children affected by crises, asserting that failing to address their suffering should be more controversial than offering support. “Not speaking up when kids are in dire situations is what should be viewed as wrong,” she added.
