Efforts are ongoing to locate a swimmer who vanished from Long Island’s North Shore during sunset on Monday evening.
The swimmer, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, was last seen around 7:49 PM at Kings Park Bluff, which is located near the Nissensague River’s mouth where it meets Smithtown Bay and Long Island Sound.
According to Suffolk County Police, “I’m not sure if he was in the water swimming or using a kayak or something else. He realized he was having difficulty underwater.”
The search efforts included a diving team, police dogs, and Marine units, working alongside the U.S. Coast Guard and local volunteer fire departments, as officials reported. “We deployed some units into the water,” noted Kings Park Fire Department Chief Phillip Carroll. “Our dive teams were assisted by the Northport and Bayshore fire departments, but we couldn’t locate anyone.”
Search operations were resumed on Tuesday by police and additional officials.
This incident follows another recent case involving 29-year-old Petros Clomidas, a Democrat who went missing off Long Beach’s coast around late April. His disappearance led to a search effort involving nearly 100 individuals.
