Izzy Buttorres, known for his role on “Flip or Flop,” shared how his faith played a crucial part in overcoming significant drug addiction struggles.
In a conversation on the “We Out Of Time” podcast, he opened up about his battles with PCP and methamphetamine on May 13th. He mentioned a particular memory of an old cinema that had been transformed into a church, which made him realize he was in need of forgiveness.
He reached out to his religious aunt for guidance, confessing, “I just need to reconcile with God.” When they met, he discovered they were at a church, and he went on to say, “I confessed and thought I would probably die high again.” However, upon reaching the altar, he felt a shift.
“I began walking toward the cross. There was no service, just her and me. When I got to the altar, I felt completely broken,” Batotres explained.
He reflected on how those personal moments brought clarity in a way he hadn’t encountered before. “Suddenly, I was aware of all the wrongs I’d done. It weighed on me, and I truly regretted it,” he remarked.
Buttorres described this experience as his “red tale,” claiming that it triggered an “immediate transformation” in his life. “I felt light and delivered. From that moment on, there was no more chaos. It was like a miracle,” he added.
He did mention that he had started drinking alcohol and using marijuana at a young age, going on to try mushrooms, acid, and eventually, PCP. “In the neighborhood, it was cheap and accessible; it was just part of life,” he noted.
Buttorres expressed hope that others currently struggling would recognize that “there is hope.” He emphasized, “Here I am, and I’m living proof.”
He shared that many feel trapped in their situations and may believe there’s no escape. When asked what advice he would give his younger self, Buttorres paused before saying, “I see you. Your feelings matter. You have a purpose… Being acknowledged is something everyone desires.”
Buttorres has also made appearances on “Izzy Does It,” following his time as a contractor on “Flip or Flop.”
