SEATTLE — The Yankees confirmed their concerns on Tuesday when Oswald Cabrera was found to have a broken left ankle.
The lively third baseman sustained the injury during a distressing play in the ninth inning at T-Mobile Park on Monday night. He had to be taken off the field in an ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital.
It remains unclear if there’s additional damage to the ligaments around Cabrera’s ankle or if it’s just a simple fracture.
The Yankees have placed Cabrera on the 10-day injured list, bringing DJ LeMahieu back into the lineup. The veteran infielder had previously missed the first month and a half of the season due to calf tension.
LeMahieu is anticipated to primarily play at second base, but with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the radar—albeit a bit anxious—the team might also need him at third base.
