Sky’s Angel Reese sidesteps question about previous statement

Angel Reese Brushes Off Questions About WNBA Impact

Angel Reese, the star forward for the Chicago Sky, seemed disinterested in discussing her recent provocative comments about the evolution of the WNBA. Last June, she had expressed a belief that the influence on women’s basketball isn’t attributed to a single person but that historians might eventually recognize the significance of the year 2024.

“It’s my fault,” Reese remarked at one point, though when a reporter attempted to delve deeper into her thoughts, she quickly interrupted with, “Next question.” The surrounding staff made it clear they were ready to shift topics as well.

The debate over the key figures in boosting the WNBA’s popularity continues. Notably, the Indiana Fever have televised numerous games this season, even more than the defending champions, the New York Liberty.

As Reese embarks on her second season in the WNBA, she faces the challenge of navigating her new head coach and teammates in 2025.

Last season, Reese’s debut was cut short due to an injury, which prevented her team from making a playoff push. However, she had impressive statistics, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, earning an All-Star title and finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting behind Caitlin Clark.

During the offseason, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie offered Reese some guidance, praising her skills. “Angel has a motor and the energy necessary for greatness,” Leslie noted. She emphasized the importance of Reese continuing to improve, particularly in finishing plays from both sides. Leslie highlighted Reese’s work ethic and potential for growth.

The Chicago Sky are set to open the season against Clark and the Indiana Fever.
