Teen Arrested in Bronx Shooting Incident
A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody following the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl in the Bronx. This tragic event occurred around 5:05 PM on Monday, as reported by a police spokesman. Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of Home Street and Tinton Avenue.
The victim, Evett Jeffrey, was found “unconsciously unresponsive” with a gunshot wound to her head. Unfortunately, she was later pronounced dead.
According to reports, Jeffrey was at a school nearby, visiting her boyfriend when the incident took place. The location has been identified as Bronx and Latin Intermediate School No. 158. It seems a fight broke out close to the school, and during an argument, a boy who had been punched was handed a 9mm pistol and fired three shots. Tragically, one of those rounds struck Jeffrey, even though she wasn’t the intended target.
New York Police Chief Joseph Kenny reflected on the situation, stating that she was an innocent bystander trying to take cover behind a brick wall when she was hit. There are indications that the incident might be gang-related.
The suspect reportedly attempted to flee by getting into a taxi early Tuesday morning but was arrested without further incident.
Charges against the teenager include two counts of murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Additionally, first-degree manslaughter and second-degree attempted murder charges are also being confirmed.
Authorities are currently searching for a 12-year-old who allegedly supplied the gun to the suspect.
