Authorities reported that four individuals lost their lives following a van’s errant crossing on a central highway just north of New York City. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the van crossed the northbound lanes near Taconic State Park and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
New York State Police noted that the van was completely engulfed in flames after the crash.
At the scene, three passengers in the van were pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the driver of the other car succumbed to injuries later at a nearby hospital.
In a troubling turn, the van driver is currently hospitalized in critical condition, according to police reports.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
In the aftermath, the northbound lanes of the Taconic Parkway in the Westchester suburbs had to be closed for several hours.
