A 23-year-old TikTok influencer was brutally killed during a live stream in Jalisco, Mexico, by a man who entered a beauty salon under the guise of delivering a gift.
Valeria Marquez was shot while streaming from Blooming Jalisco’s beauty lounge, according to the state’s prosecutor’s office.
She was attacked when a man walked into the salon located on the outskirts of Zapopan in Guadalajara.
In the graphic video of her final moments, Marquez is seen sitting at a table when the man, carrying a pink stuffed animal, greets her. He asks, “Are you Valeria?” and she responds affirmatively.
A few moments later, the stream captures the sound of multiple gunshots, and Marquez is left lifeless on the table, blood visible in her hair.
The harrowing footage cuts off when someone in the salon picks up her phone and stops the recording.
Further videos circulated online, showing Marquez discussing her live stream shortly before the shooter arrived. In one clip, she seems anxious, stating that a friend had called asking if she could deliver something to the salon.
Marquez is seen conversing with another woman, who mentions that the delivery person prefers to wait until Marquez is there before making the drop-off.
In a somewhat chilling moment, the influencer jokes, “Maybe they’ll kill me,” to which the other woman reassures her that the delivery is just a gift.
Marquez appears skeptical, asking if the delivery person was on a motorcycle and if they intended to pick her up.
Not long after, while live streaming, she is heard answering the expected delivery person before muting her stream and suddenly being shot.
Authorities confirmed her death upon arriving at the scene, although the identity of the shooter remains unknown. The motivation behind the attack is still unclear, but it is being treated as a murder case, especially considering the alarming rates of gender-based violence in Mexico.
Reports indicate that such violence is deeply ingrained in society, with the UN estimating daily murders of women by partners or family members.
The murder of Marquez has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the disturbing normalization of violence in Jalisco and its neighboring areas.
Her TikTok account has been deleted following the incident.
