Mike Tomlin has been leading the Pittsburgh Steelers for nearly two decades, and he has guided them to a Super Bowl championship. His coaching skills have earned him a reputation as one of the best in the NFL. However, after years of success, the Steelers have faced struggles in recent seasons. Since Tomlin took over as head coach in 2007, he has never ended a regular season with a losing record, yet it’s been eight years since the team won a playoff game.
Amidst this ongoing disappointment, former Steelers player and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark has shared his thoughts on Tomlin’s future as a coach.
Clark emphasized that Tomlin’s departure from the Steelers shouldn’t be immediate. He stated, “I don’t think Mike Tomlin is possible,” pointing out that any decision regarding his position should ultimately be up to Tomlin himself.
Clark then suggested that perhaps a change of scenery might be beneficial for Tomlin, proposing that he could bring a “fresh voice” to another NFL team. He expressed concern that the coach’s message may not resonate as strongly with the current players in the Steelers’ locker room. “I think Mike Tomlin should coach in another organization,” Clark said. “He has done great things, but sometimes a fresh start is needed.” He acknowledged Tomlin’s impressive track record, including leading the team to significant heights in the past.
As for the Steelers’ quarterback situation in the upcoming 2025 season, it remains uncertain. With Mason Rudolph leaving for the Tennessee Titans after a challenging 2024 season, the current roster consists of more questions than clear answers. Currently, only Skyler Thompson and rookie Wil Howard, who recently led Ohio State to a national championship, are on the team’s roster. The Steelers are also reportedly interested in veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who recently met with team officials but has yet to make a decision about his future.
