The Minnesota Twins have recently encountered some unfortunate circumstances, particularly affecting their standing in the AL Central. They began Thursday with a solid record of 24-20 and were riding a ten-game winning streak, yet they found themselves in fourth place, just ahead of the Chicago White Sox.
During their game in Baltimore against the struggling Orioles, things took a turn. Cedric Mullins made a play that saw the score jump to 3-0 for Baltimore by the end of the third inning.
In an alarming moment, Mullins caught a fly ball while both Twins players—Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton—were sprinting towards it in center field. Unfortunately, they collided mid-run, and for a brief period, both lay on the grass as play continued. Correa had to exit the game, while Buxton did stay in for a short while before being pulled as well. They’re both under concussion protocols now.
Injuries have been a recurring issue for both players. Correa, in his Major League Baseball career, has played over 140 games in just two seasons, not counting the last few years. He managed only 86 games last season.
Buxton has faced similar struggles—having played over 100 games only once since 2018, including 102 last year. In the earlier parts of the game, he did manage to contribute effectively.
On a brighter note for the Twins, Chris Paddack pitched impressively, delivering 11 scoreless innings and helping secure their 11th consecutive victory.
The Twins have now swept the season series against the Orioles 6-0, a significant turnaround from last year when they were swept by the same team. This latest winning streak marks the fourth-longest in the franchise’s history, with the record being 12 straight wins from last season.
