“516 Day” features $5.16 beers, clams, and other items celebrating the Long Island area code.

Long Island recently celebrated its inaugural “516 Day” on Friday, with businesses offering promotions like $5.16 beer and clams.

The event spanned three days and involved around 30 local businesses. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman expressed hopes for it to become a yearly tradition.

“516 Day is a new celebration of everything that makes Long Island and Nassau County great,” Blakeman mentioned during a press conference at Oyster Bay Brewery. “It’s a time to honor our fantastic small businesses, our close community, and vibrant local attractions.”

Shoppers had the opportunity to buy 516-themed items at participating locations, enjoying 5.16% discounts along with various food specials priced at $5.16, according to Blakeman.

One of the highlights was Vice Donuts, which featured a special “all bagels” donut filled with sweet cream. “We wanted something that represents Long Island. When I think of Long Island, I think of a cream cheese bagel,” shared Gina O’Rain, a Farmingdale shop owner.

Promotions extended throughout the weekend, with deals varying by location. They included not only food discounts but also lowered prices for chiropractic visits, boutique jewelry, and even two-for-one tickets to watch the local arena football team, the New York Dragons.

Oyster Bay Brewing Company offered a limited-edition beer brewed with honey from local backyard bees, specifically crafted for 516 Day. This custom brew came in cans showcasing the historic Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building of Mineola, merging local flavors with a sense of hometown pride.

“We want people to celebrate Long Island, shop, eat, explore, and rediscover their own backyard,” Blakeman emphasized.
