Former FBI Director Investigated for Reported Threat to Assassinate Trump

Investigation into Threat Against Trump After Comey’s Post

US law enforcement is currently looking into a potential assassination threat against President Donald Trump stemming from a social media post made by former FBI director James Comey, as indicated by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday.

Noem’s remarks highlighted the cryptic image of “86 47,” which she claimed spelled out a threat, following Comey’s now-deleted Instagram post. “86” is often interpreted as slang for kill, and “47” references Trump as the 47th President.

“Disgraced FBI Director James Comey called for the assassination of @potus Trump,” expressed Noem on X. She confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service are addressing the matter.

Comey later clarified on Instagram, stating, “I mentioned I shared some photos of shells I found during a beach walk. I thought this was merely a political statement.” He added, “I wasn’t aware this linked to any violent implications. Violence isn’t something I support, which is why I removed the post.”

Trump has faced additional threats, notably after sustaining injuries during an assassination attempt while at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, back in July.
