George Strait’s Emotional Concert in Philadelphia
Recently, “The King of Country Music,” George Strait, brought some tears to fans’ eyes during a concert in Philadelphia. At 72, Strait performed the heartfelt song “I’ll Always Remember You,” which he released back in 2011.
After the show, clips of his performance circulated on social media, prompting many fans to express their emotions. One poignant moment from the song had Strait reflecting, “I might have been five years to sing my song for you, but hell, it’s about 50 now. And I love it as much as I’ve ever been. When I walk through those curtains and see your smile, my feet don’t touch the ground until I get back on that bus. I always remember you.”
Fans didn’t hold back in their reactions. One user on TikTok commented, “Don’t make George cry,” while another wrote, “This will hurt when he goes.” One particularly touching sentiment read, “We are not ready for the day… the king will be king forever.”
His representatives confirmed that Strait continues to perform and stay active in the music scene, despite his earlier announcement of retirement from touring in 2012. He occasionally takes the stage for his loyal country fans.
Though aware of the physical toll that performances can take, Strait appears as energetic as ever. In fact, just last September, he released his first album in five years, entitled “The Cowboys and the Dreamers.”
The singer also made headlines in 2024 when he set a record for the largest concert attendance in the U.S. at an event in Texas, which drew 110,905 fans. An insider shared, “The energy was absolutely incredible. Even before the record-breaking announcement, it felt like we were making history.”
Playing in a beloved region for many Texas fans was a special moment for Strait. Having grown up on a family cattle ranch, his musical journey began in a garage band during his high school years, where he also met his longtime partner, Norma.
Strait has achieved unprecedented success in country music, holding the record for the most albums in the genre. With 13 multi-platinum albums and 38 gold records, his 1992 album “Pure Country” is certified six times platinum, while “Strait Out of the Box,” released in 1995, remains his best-certified album.
