Abu Dhabi – President Trump expressed his sentiments about returning from a beautiful Middle East trip on Friday, reflecting on his aging air force. He announced that “a new thing is coming,” amidst a bipartisan backlash regarding his plans to use it as an alternative to acquire a luxury jet from Qatar.
“I’m on my way to Boeing, 42. But there’s new stuff coming. Yes, new stuff,” Trump shared during an event in the Arab capital.
During his tours of three countries, Trump acted as America’s chief salesman. Qatar Airlines and UAE Etihad Airlines committed to purchasing over $110 billion worth of 238 passenger jets made in America, including a significant order from Boeing.
“Boeing has created the best aircraft, although they’ve faced some challenges in recent years,” Trump mentioned while presenting on the final day of his trip.
It’s uncertain if Trump’s remarks about a new version of Air Force 1 indicate a shift in his decision regarding the $400 million Qatar “The Wings Palace.”
Some Republicans in Congress, such as Senate Majority Leader John Tune (R-SD) and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), along with influential conservatives like critic Mark Levin and former George W. Bush White House executive director Ali Fleischer, have voiced their discontent with the president’s proposals.
Trump expressed disappointment over Boeing’s inability to deliver a new Air Force 1 before 2027. However, he praised the company during his trip and was seen next to Boeing CEO Kelly Autoberg during an event in Qatar on Thursday.
The president also highlighted Boeing’s contribution to the development of a new F-47 fighter jet, which partially honors the 47th President, and mentioned his interest in awarding a contract for a new private F-55 fighter jet.
