Nuggets rescued by an unexpected playoff hero to bring about Game 7 against the Thunder

As the Denver Nuggets faced a critical moment in their season, it was an unexpected player who stepped up. Julian Strawther, typically on the bench, emerged to make a significant impact during their 119-107 victory over the Thunder in Game 6.

Strawther entered the game with just over three minutes left in the third quarter, with the Nuggets leading slightly at 80-78. Shortly after coming in, the Gonzaga product, drafted 29th by the Pacers in 2023, made his presence known with an offensive rebound and back-to-back three-pointers that were impressive, to say the least.

He quickly became a spark for the Nuggets, scoring eight points in just 97 seconds, helping the team secure a 90-82 advantage by the end of the third quarter, a lead they maintained until the final buzzer.

In total, Strawther scored a playoff high of 15 points, shooting 75% from beyond the arc. After the game, he reflected on the team’s chemistry, noting, “I think we’ve all come together… my guys found me and I took a shot that I knew I could make. I understood the challenge.”

Later, he shared in the locker room, “That’s the moment you dream of as a little kid.”

After hitting another three-pointer, Strawther celebrated by high-fiving fans as he moved down the court. His final shot extended the lead to 109-93, effectively securing the win and drawing cheers from the audience.

“To be honest, I don’t remember,” Strawther mused about the excitement of the moment.

This stellar performance was surprising, considering he averaged only 8.8 minutes and four points per game in these playoffs before this outburst.

Now, the Nuggets are gearing up to return to Oklahoma City for a decisive Game 7 against a Thunder team that dominated the regular season. While the top-seeded Thunder have shown some vulnerability, Denver is eager to prove their championship potential as they look to build on this crucial win.
