Preamble

Hello, and welcome to the second-to-last day of the 2024-25 Premier League season. While the champion has already been crowned and relegation spots determined, the race for second place, Champions League qualifications, and Europa and Conference League spots is still very much alive.

Aston Villa is set to host Spurs at Villa Park tonight and still has a slim chance to finish second. They need a win in this match and the next, plus some favorable results elsewhere to achieve that goal.

Realistically, though, Unai Emery’s team is aiming for a top-five finish, which secures Champions League football for next season. Currently, there’s just a five-point gap separating Arsenal in second from Villa in sixth. As it stands, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester City, and Chelsea hold the top five spots, but Villa and Nottingham Forest are positioned to take advantage of any missteps.

On the other hand, Tottenham is fully focused on their upcoming Europa League final against Manchester United. They’re currently sitting at 17th in the table, so it’s likely that manager Ange Postecoglou will rest many starters for this game.
