Uber has rolled out an affordable new option for commuters.
Earlier this week, the company revealed its “Route Sharing.” This feature allows users to share rides with up to two other passengers on busy routes, potentially saving them up to 50% compared to UberX fares.
“Route Share provides regular and reliable pickups along direct routes from 6 AM to 10 AM and 10 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Friday,” the company mentioned in a news release.
The company noted that pickups will occur every 20 minutes in high-traffic areas, making it a more economical but possibly less predictable alternative than UberX.
Initially, this service will be available in major cities including New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, and Baltimore.
Additional cities may be added as the program expands.
However, Uber has yet to announce when the program will officially launch.
