Yankees announcer encourages fans to boo Juan Soto during his return to the Bronx

Soto’s Return to Yankee Stadium Sparks Anticipation

Juan Soto played just one season with the New York Yankees, yet he made quite an impact by helping the team reach the 2024 World Series. Now, he’s made a switch to the Mets, signing a significant contract that has everyone talking.

As the Mets prepare for a three-game series against the Yankees starting Friday, this will be Soto’s first return to Yankee Stadium after leaving the team. Much of the buzz revolves around how Yankees fans will greet him.

Michael Kay, a veteran play-by-play announcer and radio host, has weighed in on the upcoming games. He suggested that while it’s fine for fans to boo Soto, they should refrain from using vulgar language. “We’re expecting a strong reaction from the fans,” Kay said. “If I were a Yankees fan, I’d probably boo him constantly.” He emphasized that there’s a way to show discontent without being disrespectful.

Kay urged fans to be a bit more clever in their jeering. “You can boo without resorting to anything offensive. Remember, there are kids in the stands!” His sentiment seemed to resonate with the idea that while booing might be inevitable, it can still be done in a civilized manner.

Soto himself acknowledges that he might hear some boos from the crowd, yet he insists that it won’t dampen his excitement about playing at Yankee Stadium. He mentioned that while he understands fan emotions, he’s not overly concerned about their reactions.
Kay added a note about some fans potentially feeling betrayed since Soto switched to the Mets, likening their feelings to heartbreak. “There’s a sense of betrayal here,” he noted. “Every time he’s near the ball, the boos will likely come from the stands.”

Soto’s stats during his season with the Yankees were impressive, tallying 41 home runs and a .288 batting average. As he gears up for his return, the anticipation is tangible, and it’s clear that feelings will run high on both sides. Ultimately, Soto seems ready to embrace whatever happens while still reflecting on his strong performance last season.
