Caitlyn Clark Reflects on Her New Season
Caitlyn Clark feels a noticeable difference this year.
As she steps onto the court for her WNBA debut after a dynamic college season at Iowa, Clark expresses that she feels much more at ease than during her opener last year.
“Honestly, I can’t even recall last year’s opener. Maybe that’s for the best,” she shared with ESPN recently. “This time, it’s about going out there, having fun, and playing with confidence. I’ve spent another year in this league, and I really believe I belong. I know I can contribute and elevate my teammates every night; that’s my role.”
“Things aren’t always perfect. It’s essential to show yourself some grace. You have fantastic moments, but then there are those tough times too. So, I aim to maintain a neutral mindset and keep everything positive,” she added.
Reflecting on her rookie season, Clark likened it to being a freshman either in high school or college.
“It’s like beginning a new chapter in your life. You’re proving to yourself that you belong and charting your own course. As you enter your second season, knowing your coach’s expectations and understanding your teammates makes a world of difference. There’s definitely a newfound confidence,” Clark noted.
Last season, she concluded with an impressive average of 19.2 points and topped the league with 8.4 assists, earning Rookie of the Year honors.
The Fever kicked off their season against the Sky on Saturday, igniting a rivalry as Chicago boasts stars like Angel Reese and Camila Cardosa.
Reese, when asked earlier this week about the focus on their matchup with Clark, quipped, “Next question.”
Clark expressed her excitement that these games have added significance.
“Rivalries are real, and that’s what elevates the sport,” she said. “Certain teams make these matchups feel even more intense. It’s all about bringing the fans into it, and they absolutely love it.”
