Concerns raised about Biden’s use of autopen following release of Robert Hur interview audio

The chairman of the GOP House Oversight Committee, along with other Republicans, has expressed concerns regarding former President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities. They highlighted that his cognitive functions seemed adequate enough to let Autoopen tools sign important documents for him.

On Friday night, Axios unveiled exclusive audio from an interview between Biden and his special advisor, Robert Hur. In the recording, Biden appears to struggle with his words, frequently mumbling and pausing for extended periods. He even forgets significant details, like the date of his son Beau’s passing and the year Donald Trump was first elected.

“That’s what I’m curious about—who’s actually making the decisions?” Rep. James Kommer from Kentucky mentioned during a segment on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity.” He pointed out that based on the interview’s content, which took place months prior to the heavy reliance on the autopen, Biden seemed unable to make decisions and was inconsistent.

Earlier on the same day, Comer revealed an investigation aimed at clarifying who authorized the use of the Autoopen. He raised concerns over its use to grant presidential pardons, particularly those involving Biden’s family. “I have questions about these pardons. Using an autopen for this could complicate things—I’m no lawyer, but it raises issues from Trump’s administration,” he stated. “We now have more information, yet when Biden was supposed to cooperate during crucial times, he couldn’t.”

Additionally, a question was posed by former Robert F. Kennedy Jr. advisor, Link Lauren, who asked, “Who was controlling the autopen? Who was the unelected bureaucrat making decisions that could harm our nation? I want a name.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has indicated that he wouldn’t use automatic signing tools for crucial legal documents such as amnesty papers. White House officials confirmed back in March that it was the administration’s policy to adhere to using Trump’s handwritten signatures for legally binding agreements.
