Federal Government Probably Too Centralized in D.C., ‘Too Close-knit’

Bill Maher’s Thoughts on Government Focus

During the online “overtime” segment of HBO’s “Real Time” on Friday, host Bill Maher remarked that the federal government might be “too focused on Washington,” calling it somewhat of an “incestuous” situation.

Maher addressed viewers’ questions, noting one from Kash Patel, who mentioned the idea of closing the FBI’s headquarters in D.C. and relocating staff across the country. He asked whether other government agencies might consider similar moves.

In response, Maher found it to be an intriguing idea, saying, “I’m not against it for any reason. Perhaps everything is indeed too centered on Washington.”

Peter Hamby, the host of Snapchat’s “Good Luck America” and a partner at Puck News, shared his thoughts, suggesting that news organizations should expand their presence beyond just New York, Los Angeles, and Washington.

Maher agreed, exclaiming, “Ah, totally.”
