Caitlin Clark was right to demand a flagrant foul on Angel Reese during the Fever-Sky game.

Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese Get Attention in WNBA Matchup

The matchup between Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese has certainly drawn considerable attention. Their recent clash in the women’s college basketball national championship was one of the most exciting we’ve seen in quite some time. Both players kicked off their rivalry in a very intense way.

On Saturday, during the opening game of the 2025 WNBA season, Clark’s Indiana Fever faced off against Reese’s Chicago Sky. The Fever surged ahead early, but things heated up in the third quarter when Clark attempted a layup that resulted in what many considered a questionable foul call against her.

Initially, the referees ruled it as a common foul, but after reviewing the play, they upgraded it to a Flagrant-one foul. This led to Reese getting two free throws and possession for the Sky. In a surprise turn of events, both Reese and Fever’s Arya Boston received technical fouls following the review.

Reese quickly shot from the field and seemed to confront Clark, who, understandably frustrated, expressed her displeasure over the foul call after it was deemed to be a poor decision by the officials.

Both Rebecca Lobo and Ryan Ruocco from the ABC broadcast team commented that the referees made the right call by assessing a Flagrant foul on Clark. Initially, it looked like she had wrapped her arms legally around Reese, but the ending thrust was what made the foul apparent. WNBA officials typically avoid calling many Flagran t fouls, but in this case, they were justified. The game’s intensity calmed a bit following this ruling.

This incident marked the second significant foul in the ongoing tension between Clark and Reese. Last season, Reese herself was called for a Flagrant foul after a hard slam attempt during a layup.

The Fever showcased a strong performance in their season opener, while the Sky, well, they still have a lot to work on. However, every encounter between Clark and Reese promises to be a must-watch event.
