Queens College removes Jewish accounting professors following antisemitic incidents on campus, lawsuit states

Queen’s College Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Discrimination

According to a recent lawsuit, Queen’s College expelled the accounting office of a Jewish adjunct professor following a surge of “anti-Semitic hate speech and violence” on campus after Hamas’ attacks on Israel.

Helen Schwarb, an adjunct accounting professor, claims that New York University’s municipal schools opted not to reappoint her in May 2023 as part of their initiative to “clean out Jewish staff homes.” It’s hard to believe—yet here we are.

Schwarb, who is 66, alleges that the school retained young, non-Jewish faculty members who had low performance ratings. She makes a compelling point, I think, which raises questions about the criteria being used.

She commented, “The only Jews remaining in the accounting department will be the ones in their 70s and 80s, involved in federal court cases in Brooklyn to seek damages.” That’s quite a stark prediction, really.

Based in Rockland County, Schwarb has consistently received high performance ratings since 2012 and has taught multiple classes every semester, including summer sessions. It’s baffling that her contributions seem to be overlooked.

Despite the school’s assertion about registration and budget complications, Schwarb argues in court documents that the two classes she intended to teach were fully enrolled, yet were assigned to less qualified instructors. Doesn’t quite add up, does it?

In her lawsuit, she emphasizes that the school has failed to address what she calls a “continuous anti-Semitic barrage of hate speech and violence” that has intensified since Hamas’ actions on October 7, 2023.

Interestingly, the school reported a 39% decline in registrations within the accounting department from 2020 to 2024, and a significant drop of 18% from 2022 to 2023. Queen’s College, however, has declined to comment on the ongoing lawsuit.
