Mace Issues Strong Statement Following Alleged Death Threat Against Transgender Individual

Rep. Nancy Mace’s Impact Statement Following Threat

On Friday in Greenville, South Carolina, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) delivered a strong victim impact statement after a 19-year-old man, Samuel Theodore Cain, who identifies as a woman, was accused of threatening her online with assassination.

Cain was arrested on Thursday after allegedly posting the threat. The judge declined to grant bail, citing concerns over the reliability of the threats made by Cain.

During the hearing, the judge expressed belief in Cain’s potential danger, stating, “Mr. Cain, I believe you are a reliable threat, and I believe I am trying to put you on bonds.”

The specific threat involved an explicit statement of intent: “I’m 100% dead ass with the intention of assassinating Nancy Mace’s representative with a gun.”

Mace, in her statement, conveyed the clear and violent nature of the threats. Upon learning of the situation, her staff urged her to seek safety, as they were uncertain about Cain’s whereabouts.

This meant I was vulnerable. My staff was vulnerable. And my children were vulnerable. A man I had never met threatened to put a bullet on me, so I had to immediately change my movements, environment, and plans. We had to immediately join local law enforcement to patrol my home and my office.

Mace emphasized, “As elected officials, we accept public scrutiny. We do not accept fear. Normalizing threats to civil servants undermines democracy. It’s an attack on free and fair expression.” She went on to express her personal experience with threats related to her stance on the so-called “trans movement,” describing it as radical and harmful.

I think the movement is radical. It feels like a cult. Trans individuals and their supporters can sometimes express aggression, especially against women and elected officials who stand firm. Those who claim to identify as women but are biologically male, in my view, often display violent tendencies. It is crucial for South Carolina to protect its women, and now is the time for that protection to be shown in a clear way.

Mace further added her hope that Cain would find redemption, saying, “I pray that this young man will find God and that he can turn the heart of stone into the heart of flesh by himself.”

Following the incident, Mace shared a social media post featuring Cain’s image, commenting on the troubling nature of his behavior and calling for understanding of the underlying issues he faces.

After the court session, Mace had a brief encounter with Cain’s father, whom she reported met with her. While he expressed remorse, she noted it’s not fault of his own, and she felt sadness for the entire family.

Mace concluded her comments wishing for Cain to confront the consequences of his actions while hoping for his spiritual awakening, highlighting the complexities surrounding such incidents.

This situation follows ongoing challenges Mace has faced, including prior incidents of hostility stemming from her beliefs about women’s spaces and safety at the Capitol.
