Scottie Scheffler leads by 3 strokes heading into the final round of the PGA Championship

Scotty Scheffler Shines on Moving Day at PGA Championship

Scotty Scheffler truly made a statement during the third round of the PGA Championship, aptly dubbed “moving day.” He completed the round with a 65, giving him an impressive three-stroke lead at Cool Hollow, totaling 11 under par as he heads into the final round on Sunday.

Scheffler was remarkably focused throughout his round, even delivering one of the tournament’s standout shots. He successfully drove the green on the 15th hole, setting himself up for an eagle putt. In addition, he managed to score three birdies, which is nothing short of impressive, and he walked into the clubhouse in a familiar position at the top of the leaderboard.

While Scheffler’s six-under performance for the day was commendable, Sweden’s Alex Norlen wasn’t far behind, posting a five-under to tie at 8-under for the final pairing on Sunday.

JT Poston and Davis Riley found themselves tied for third, while Liv Golf’s Jon Rahm finished the day at six under, having shot a four-under round but losing a stroke along the way in the majors. Jonattan Vegas also sits at six under, but it’s worth noting that his two-over performance on Saturday hindered his standing—it could have been so much better.

After an impressive start on Thursday with a 7-under, Vegas struggled with four bogeys contrasted with just two birdies, which really affected his position leading into the final round. He has some serious work to do if he wants to clinch that first major win.

However, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Scheffler. He’s hoping to secure his first major besides the Masters. Ranked as the world’s top golfer, he previously claimed the FedEx Cup—but he’s still aiming for the PGA Championship, US Open, or Open Championship titles.

Interestingly, last year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla was quite a scene for Scheffler—he faced some off-course drama after being arrested while trying to join a Louisville-based golf club. Although he was ultimately exonerated, the incident is still a talking point in his career. Despite that hiccup, the main focus remains: he hasn’t claimed a major title outside of Augusta National yet.

As the final round approaches, it feels like the stage is set for him to potentially change that narrative come Sunday.
