Pedestrian Fatally Injured in E-Scooter Accident
Authorities report that a 58-year-old pedestrian was tragically killed while crossing Staten Island Street on Saturday night, when he was struck by an electric scooter.
The victim, Jose Luis Gomez-Guallazaca, was hit by a scooter operated by a 25-year-old man around 7:40 PM in the bike lane along Targee Street.
According to police, the impact caused the scooter operator to be thrown from the vehicle during the collision, which occurred outside of a crosswalk.
Gomez-Guallazaca sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead later at the University of Richmond Medical Center.
Police noted that he resided in the Bronx, not far from Yankee Stadium, though records suggest he had recently been in Suffolk County, Long Island.
The scooter operator is reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
So far, no charges have been filed, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
