Scottie Scheffler excels to win his third major championship at the 2025 PGA Championship.

Scotty Schaeffler Wins PGA Championship

The reality of his achievement might come across as flattering, even if it doesn’t strike an untrained ear that way.

On Sunday during the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, Scotty Schaeffler exhibited a somewhat monotonous strategy. Starting the final round as the leader, he aimed to maintain his composure and fend off the competition. Unfortunately, it didn’t pan out as well as he’d hoped.

In the end, Scotty Scheffler clinched the title of 2025 PGA champion, marking a significant milestone in his career.

While Bryson Dechambeau, the reigning open champion, garnered considerable attention, much of the discussion throughout the week revolved around Rory McIlroy, the Masters champion. As the weekend unfolded, Bryson pushed hard, and fellow LIV golfer John Lahm also gave it his all in pursuit of a major victory after a two-year drought. But ultimately, Scotty withstood the pressure and prevailed.

Throughout much of the back nine, Scotty maintained his lead. Winning the PGA allows him to add another significant title to his collection, including two Masters green jackets and the gold medal he secured at the Olympics last summer.

Given his two Masters victories, one might question whether Schaeffler is simply destined for success at Augusta. In a manner reminiscent of Rory’s triumph, Scotty silenced multiple discussions by lifting the Wanamaker trophy. There’s a reason he’s considered one of the world’s top players, and he continues to prove it. If his performance today is any indication, we might just be witnessing the beginning of what could be a string of major championships.

This golf season has been particularly interesting, with leading golfers like Rory and Scotty each claiming majors. Notably, Scotty marked the tenth consecutive American to win the PGA since Jason Day in 2015.

His significant victory margin placed him in a unique category. CBS noted that he became the first player to win his first three major championships by three or more strokes, a feat he achieved at just 183. This accomplishment puts him alongside Seve Ballesteros.

Right now, golf seems to belong to Scotty. With discussions around the potential for a Grand Slam this season, it’s entirely reasonable to ponder whether he might soon follow in Rory’s footsteps and join an elite group of champions. He’s certainly on that path.

When will his next title come? In 2025? Maybe 2026?

For Scotty Schaeffler, there’s nothing off the table.
