JD Vance Shares Happy Picture With Volodymyr Zelensky After Tense Encounter At White House With Donald Trump Regarding Russia-Ukraine Conflict

In a significant meeting on Sunday in Rome, US Vice President J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky came face to face for the first time since a heated discussion in the Oval Office back in February. The dialogue followed intense negotiations that had previously taken place at the White House.

During their conversation, they expressed a shared objective of halting unnecessary bloodshed in Ukraine and went over the latest updates on ceasefire efforts and ongoing peace talks.

Zelensky, coming off criticism for not adequately acknowledging US support in the conflict against Russia, shared a photo with Vance on social media, expressing gratitude. He remarked on the positive nature of the meeting, saying they discussed the recent consultations in Istanbul where the Russian delegation was notably low-level and without significant authority.

He reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to participate in “real diplomacy” and stressed the urgent need for a complete ceasefire. They also covered various topics, including bilateral trade, defense cooperation, battlefield developments, and the pressing issue of sanctions during potential prisoner exchanges. Zelensky emphasized that pressure on Russia would continue until there’s a genuine desire to end the war.

J.D. Vance’s Critique of Zelensky

The dynamic between Vance and Zelensky escalated during that earlier Oval Office encounter when Vance pointedly highlighted the significance of diplomacy in resolving the conflict. The exchange turned heated, particularly when Vance suggested that Zelensky had failed to express proper thanks for US assistance in Ukraine’s battle against Russian aggression.

President Donald Trump, who also met with Zelensky after resuming office, criticized the Ukrainian leader for his stance, indicating that Ukraine might have been overrun by Russia without American support.

Zelensky abruptly left the previous meeting without holding the planned joint press conference. This recent encounter with Vance was his first face-to-face meeting with the Vice President since the controversial exchange in February.
