The reason Bill Belichick spent $5,000 on milk during his time with the Patriots

It’s pretty interesting how a $5,000 expenditure on milk set the stage for the short-lived friendship between Tom Brady and Antonio Brown.

This revelation came from former Patriots coach Bill Belichick during a recent appearance on “The Pivot” podcast, where he discussed Brown’s brief stint in New England as part of promoting his new book, *The Art of Winning: My Life in Football*.

Belichick shared, “One of the interesting stories in the book is about Antonio Brown. He was with the Patriots for just 11 days.” He elaborated, saying that Brady is quite health-conscious, and Brown wanted to impress him by coming over to stay at his house and integrating into the team.

“Antonio ordered some special milk for Brady. It was pricey—$5,000 worth. To make a long story short, it was a bit of a mix-up; it ended up sitting too long in the mailbox, and the milk spoiled.”

Brown had a tumultuous departure from the Raiders and landed with the Patriots just as the 2019 regular season started. After that awkward mail incident, the Patriots helped him replace the spoiled gift with something fitting for Brady’s strict diet.

“So, we got $5,000 worth of this special milk, and gave it to Brady from Antonio; just to clarify, we filed an expense report for that amount.”

However, Brown’s time with the Patriots was short-lived—he played just one game before being released in September 2019 due to sexual assault allegations.

Later, after leaving the Patriots, the future Hall of Fame quarterback joined the Buccaneers in 2020, where Brown rejoined him. Together, they even won the Super Bowl in Brady’s first season in Tampa Bay.

But, like that forgotten milk, the camaraderie between Brown and Brady soured over time, culminating in a very public breakup during a game against the Jets in January 2022, eventually leading to him being released from the Buccaneers.

Since then, Brown has taken shots at Brady, particularly following the quarterback’s divorce from Gisele Bündchen in October 2022.

Brady, after an illustrious playing career, officially retired in February 2023 after 23 seasons and is now gearing up for his second season as an NFL analyst with Fox.

On another note, Belichick is stepping into a new chapter, taking on head coaching duties for the UNC Tar Heels.

The eight-time Super Bowl champion recently made headlines after a rather unusual interview on “CBS Sunday Morning,” where he discussed his relationship with a former college cheerleader, whom he met on a flight in 2021, only revealing the relationship three years later.
