Russian Court Fines Apple for Breaching “LGBT Propaganda” Law

Apple Fined by Russian Court

A Moscow court announced on Monday that Apple has been fined 7.5 million rubles (approximately $93,500) for breaching Russian regulations related to what the government classifies as LGBT propaganda on three occasions.

This decision comes in the wake of increased restrictions in Russia concerning the promotion of “non-traditional sexual relations.” The Russian government, under President Vladimir Putin, has framed these measures as a necessary response to what it perceives as the moral decay of Western societies.

The Tagansky Court determined that Apple Distribution International Ltd. committed three administrative violations, resulting in fines of 2.5 million rubles each for those infractions.

Apple hasn’t publicly commented on the ruling as of yet.

It was reported by Mediazona News that Apple’s representatives requested the hearing be closed to the public, which means the specifics surrounding each violation remain unclear.

In recent years, Russia has labeled the “International LGBT Movement” as extremist, leading to the potential for serious legal repercussions for LGBT individuals and their advocates.

Russian courts have been actively imposing fines on those breaching the “LGBT propaganda” law, targeting various parties, including online film distributors and company executives.
