Fever fans’ supposed racial remark is not acceptable

Caitlyn Clark recently spoke out against racism in response to an investigation by the WNBA into alleged hate speech directed at her during a game last weekend.

Beginning on Sunday, the league initiated an inquiry into these claims, with the Fever organization cooperating fully.

After practice on Monday, Clark voiced her strong opposition to all forms of racism, both in basketball and beyond. She stated, “Our game has no place for that, and society has no place for that. We want everyone who comes to the arena, whether it’s a player or a fan, to have a great experience. We’re thankful for what the league is doing. The Fever organization has been proactive from the start, and we’re appreciative of their efforts.”

She also mentioned, “When you do your research, you have to trust them to uncover the facts and, if necessary, take the right actions.”

The ongoing investigation is connected to potential remarks aimed at Skystar Angel Reese, linked to a previous rivalry with Clark during their college days at LSU. Interestingly, this inquiry is unrelated to a tense incident where Clark fouled Reese.

Clark noted that, despite the noise in the arena, she hadn’t personally heard anything that could be construed as racist. “It’s really loud. I didn’t catch anything, but perhaps that’s why they’re investigating. I believe they’ll handle it properly,” she said.

This isn’t the first instance of fans allegedly using racist language; last season, Alyssa Thomas, a player for the Sun, claimed that Fever fans made similar comments after a playoff game.
