49ers sign Fred Warner as the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL

Fred Warner Reshapes Salary Trends in the NFL

Fred Warner is making headlines this week with a new contract that’s shaking up the salary standards. On Monday, the four-time All-Pro linebacker signed a three-year extension worth $63 million, which includes a whopping $56 million guaranteed. At just 28, he now holds the title of the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL.

This deal marks his second contract during his seven-year career and places him at the forefront of salaries for his position.

Warner was drafted 70th overall from BYU in 2018 and was set to enter the 2025 season with a $29.2 million cap hit. Prior to this extension, he had two years remaining on his previous deal, but nothing was guaranteed moving forward.

This significant contract comes on the heels of several other high-profile extensions with the 49ers. Just three days earlier, they finalized a five-year, $265 million deal with quarterback Brock Purdy, following tight end George Kittle’s four-year, $76.4 million agreement.

Throughout a challenging season marked by injuries, Warner still put up impressive numbers: four forced fumbles, two interceptions (including a stunning 70-yard pick-six), two quarterback hits, and one sack, all across 17 games.

After a disappointing 6-11 record, the 49ers rebounded strongly in 2023, emerging as dominant contenders in the NFC and earning a spot in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.

As Warner looks ahead, he aims to maintain his streak as a Pro Bowler and extend his recognition among the league’s elite players.
