Toto Wolff optimistic about Mercedes’ recovery at the Monaco Grand Prix

Mercedes Faces Challenges at Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix proved to be a tough weekend for the Mercedes team.

Rising star Kimi Antonelli started the week by welcoming classmates to the paddock, showcasing her involvement in Formula 1 at just 18 years old. Unfortunately, her race took a turn when her W16 lost throttle control on lap 46, leading to her premature exit from the Grand Prix.

George Russell experienced a slightly better outcome. He secured third place after a strong qualifying session, but ended up starting the race on a set of used medium tires that were not the optimal choice for the track. As the tires began to overheat early on, Russell had to pit on lap 11, which impacted his race strategy significantly.

Ultimately, he finished in 11th place.

Looking ahead, the team hopes for a comeback at the Monaco Grand Prix.

“After a challenging race in Italy, we have a quick chance to recover in Monaco,” said Toto Wolff in a team media preview. “We need to analyze what caused the issues at Imola to ensure they don’t happen again.” He emphasized the importance of improving to avoid a repeat of the previous performance.

Wolff highlighted qualifying in Monaco as a key focus, pointing out that Mercedes has done well in this area this season.

“However, Monaco presents unique challenges. Qualifying is vital and we’ve been strong there so far,” he noted. “It’s promising, but it has to translate into performance on track, especially since competition is generally heightened in Monaco.”

Wolff also mentioned that the mandatory two-stop strategy adds a new layer to this year’s Monaco race.

“We need to maximize our potential for strong results on Sunday. The two-stop requirement will also change the dynamics of the race,” he concluded.

“We’re eager for the challenge and ready to get back out there.”
