Red Sox Beautifully Celebrate Released Hamas Hostage, Omer Shem Tov, During Jewish Heritage Night

A Memorable Night in Boston

Monday night was something special at Fenway Park. The Boston Red Sox honored Omer Shem Tov, a former hostage of Hamas, by inviting him to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Shem’s pitch was thrown just before the Red Sox faced off against the New York Mets. This event coincided with the team’s Jewish heritage night, and it seemed like a fitting tribute—with a liberated individual symbolizing hope in the face of adversity.

It was truly an uplifting experience. To top it off, the Red Sox emerged victorious in the game!

“It was amazing, it was amazing,” Shem Tov expressed. “It’s an incredible opportunity, and being here tonight is an honor for me.”

Baseball often tells a bigger story about tradition and community. I’m honored to participate in the annual Jewish Heritage celebration. Welcoming brave Omer Shem Tov and his family to Boston made for a particularly special evening.

Omer Shem Tov, a POW survivor, made an appearance at the Red Sox game. He had the privilege of throwing the first pitch.

Before the game, Alex Bregman had the chance to meet Omer Shem Tov. Bregman had recently visited an exhibition related to the Nova Festival.

A round of applause for this wonderful event!
