Testimony in Weinstein Retrial
On Tuesday, Jessica Mann, a former actress, confronted Harvey Weinstein in court, making a poignant “see me” gesture after sharing her harrowing experience of alleged rape in a Manhattan hotel. The moment came after she had exited the witness stand, and it was quite intense.
Weinstein, who was present in a wheelchair, reportedly shook his head while his defense attorney, Arthur Adara, claimed that Mann acted inappropriately.
Amidst the tensions, Weinstein appeared to behave oddly, suggesting that the trial should be dismissed altogether. Meanwhile, two judges remained close by, and he took a moment to sip water, perhaps to steady himself.
Prosecutors in Manhattan argued that Mann’s behavior did not amount to a legal issue, a sentiment that the judge echoed when agreeing with Adara’s request.
In her earlier testimony, Mann had tearfully recounted another alleged incident of assault by Weinstein at a hotel in Midtown. At one point, she mentioned discovering an injection needle in the trash, which was labeled confusingly.
She explained to the judge, “I looked it up on Google, and it basically means ‘dead penis.’ You inject it, but it can only be used within a certain timeframe.”
Currently, Weinstein faces charges related solely to rape and has maintained a not guilty plea as he undergoes retrial for sexual offenses.
