Los Angeles Sparks have brought King Leatu back with a challenging contract for the remainder of the season. King initially played at the University of Pittsburgh and then at Notre Dame.
In her final season at Notre Dame, she averaged 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 56.3% from the field. She ranked 17th in Division I for rebounding this past season and was a semi-finalist for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award.
Even though she was let go just a week ago, she has now rejoined the Sparks under a hardship contract.
Sparks facing numerous injuries early this season.
Cameron Brink, who suffered an ACL tear last season, is anticipated to make her return to play in June, according to ESPN’s Holly Rowe.
A right leg injury has sidelined Rae Burrell for the season opener, with an expected recovery time of six to eight weeks. Additionally, second-year player Ricke Jackson exited Sunday’s game and is currently considered day-to-day.
The Sparks have been compelled to rely on challenging contracts due to the extended absence of Burrell. This contract serves as a temporary fix to their roster issues. While it’s a seasonal agreement, King may be released when Burrell returns and if the team’s circumstances improve.
