Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts shares reasons for not attending the White House after the Super Bowl victory

Jalen Hurts Skips White House Visit

Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, recently shared that he did not attend the White House last month, a notable absence following the team’s Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. This has sparked a fair amount of speculation among fans and observers.

Just days before the White House event, Hurts was approached about his plans to attend. Interestingly, his mother was mentioned in the conversation, but details remained vague.

Hurts explained that he wasn’t available for the visit, suggesting it didn’t feel right to him. “People who went, everyone who was available. They seemed to enjoy themselves,” he stated during a press conference. He refrained from commenting explicitly on President Biden’s attendance at the Super Bowl, where the Eagles triumphed 40-22, saying, “He’s welcome to do what he wants to do.”

Days before avoiding the White House visit, Hurts was spotted on a golf course with former President Donald Trump, raising even more eyebrows as he then made an appearance at the Met Gala shortly after.

Hurts wasn’t alone in skipping the event; fellow Eagles players AJ Brown and Devonta Smith also chose not to attend. This isn’t the first time the Eagles have declined a White House invitation; after their Super Bowl win in 2018, they opted out, particularly due to the controversy surrounding player protests during the national anthem.

In the context of sports visits, the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their World Series victory with a visit to the White House shortly before the Eagles. Interestingly, Mookie Betts, who previously passed on a visit with the Boston Red Sox, attended this time.
