Denzel Washington refutes leaving Cannes prematurely following red carpet disagreement

Denzel Washington Addresses Cannes Rumors

Denzel Washington has denied reports suggesting he skipped a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival following a tense interaction with a photographer. “It’s not true,” Washington’s representative told sources, clarifying that he was simply commuting between performances of his Broadway show, “Othello,” which he will star in until next month.

The 70-year-old actor attended the film festival, continuing from last week until this weekend in the picturesque French Riviera. There were claims he missed a press conference for his new Spike Lee film, “Up to 2,” due to an argument that occurred on the red carpet.

Video footage captured on the red carpet shows Washington appearing agitated as he gestured towards the photographer. He was heard shouting “stop,” while the photographer seemed to respond with laughter. The situation escalated, and it appeared the photographer had grabbed Washington’s arm at one point.

This incident certainly stirred up some commotion. Washington was later honored for his contributions to cinema, despite the earlier misunderstanding. “Stop it!” Washington was heard exclaiming. He expressed surprise and gratitude for the recognition he received after the fray.

Before the screening of Washington’s latest project, Cannes Festival Chief Thierry Frémaux praised the actor, stating it was a day to celebrate his achievements in film. Spike Lee joined him on stage to present Washington with an award.

“Being back in Cannes feels truly special,” Washington remarked. “We’re a fortunate group here, able to make movies, wear tuxedos, and come together like this. It’s a blessing that I’m genuinely thankful for.”
